Front locks

Unlike most race cars of the day, the spyder had its fuel tank and battery in the front bonnet of the car. The 90 litre tank was designed to last the distance in a 24 hour Le Mans race with minimal pit stops and offer maximum weight ratio to aid steering and performance. The bonnet was fitted with two hinges at the nose of the spyder and two church style latches which were operated by a square tipped key through a pair of chrome triangular fittings screwed to the top of the bonnet. The latches secured the bonnet to the rest of the body through two small slots under the lip of the body.
