Following the launch by SCHUCO of the “Edition 1:18 Exclusive” range at the 62nd International Toy Fair in Nuremberg earlier this year, a number of the models displayed, including the one-off prototype of the blue 550 spyder, has finally gone into full production and released to the public.

With great anticipation, this true-to-life detail model which only has a production of 2,000 builds, can now be a feature of your classic 550 collection. During development, SCHUCO 3D scanned the original 550 spyder – 550-0051 and worked closely with the German owner to ensure it was as close as possible to the 1:1 scale car. 550-0051 had been previously used in the production of a 1:32 Scalextric model a number of years ago. This particular 550 race car has additional tubular bracing in its chassis framework, originally designed for the hill climbs and rally races it participated in during the late 50s.

Although at the premium end of the 1:18 scale model market, this car cannot be confused with the typical 1:18 Maisto model – the detailing is amazing, from the engine bay with hoses and leather straps to the interior with original instruments on the dash and even the jack. This kind of detail is usually only found on models such as the MiniWerks or a GMP spyder.

In this Exclusive range, there are also four other models released, including three VW buses and a Porsche 934 RSR – to view the whole range, you can find them here.
