The end of a dynasty
July 6th, 2015
There are not many Porsche collectors who have a fleet of 550 Spyders under their garage roof. Besides Jerry Seinfeld who also at one point owned three 550s including 550-03, the only other owner to date is Albert Westerman, founder of State of Art Clothing in the Netherlands. Mr Westerman owns 550-0045, 550-0076 and 550-0089, each with a great racing provenance, but only a small part of his vast Porsche collection which also includes 356s, early 911s and an RSK.
Unlike most owners, these cars are raced and displayed in many events, including a number of years of the modern Mille Miglia with both high profile dignitaries and celebrities behind the wheel and at Techno Classica Essen.
Mr Westerman is at a stage in his life where he wants to pass his toys down to his children, but unfortunately they are more interested in the road going 911s instead of the race bred Porsches, so slowly the fleet is being reduced with 550-0089 already sold and the RSK next on the list.
Although my pockets aren’t quite deep enough, the transporter would be a fine addition to my garage…
