All aboard for the 2013 Boxster
June 8th, 2012
In the early hours of the 4th June, a team assembled outside Grand Central Station in New York city to position three iconic Porsches on display within the Vanderbilt Hall. The two day event was to mark the launch of the 2013 Porsche Boxster, named ‘The Spirit of Escape’ and the display consisted of a Porsche 550 Spyder, Carrera GT and Boxster.
With military precision, a team of over a dozen took close to five hours to get the cars into place and on display. The cars had their fuel tanks emptied and then carefully rolled along two cushioned tracks from the front doors to ensure there was no damage done to the polished floor of the largest train station in the world.
With an estimated 22 million visitors annually, Grand Central was the perfect location to showcase this evolution of German excellence. The spyder on display was 550-0073, which is a unique 550 in itself, as it had been drilled extensively for lightening in its hill climb racing days.
A time lapse video captured the whole process of setting up the car display.
